Coffee

Coffee’s plant is Ethiopian and its drink is Yemeni: Sufi monasteries in fifteenth-century Yemen roasted and brewed the bean to stay awake through night prayers, and the practice spread through Mecca, Cairo and Istanbul before it reached Europe. The coffee house followed the coffee everywhere it went, which is most of why the drink mattered.
