Its low energy density and modest vitamin C and lycopene content reflect the fruit, but straining removes some fiber and concentrates no nutrients unless more fruit solids are retained. The defensible historical connection is therefore broad rather than local: people could extract and drink watermelon liquid wherever ripe sweet melons were available, while the familiar cold, seedless, blender-smooth version depends largely on modern horticulture and food technology.
