Its lasting significance lies less in a claim of invention than in its method: capturing a fleeting floral aroma in a transportable sweet concentrate. Contemporary homemade cordial preserves that seasonal rhythm, while bottled products have turned a localized gathering practice into an internationally marketed flavor.
